Syracuse University is not easy to get into especiallyNov 13 2008Economics
Syracuse University is not easy to get into; especially if you're a perspective Journalism major. The Newhouse school of communication is among the top three best journalism schools in the country and with so many students beating down the dorr for admission, the admissions officers have the luxury of being picky. I suggest getting involved. As numbers based Syracuse University is, they also look at who you are and what you've done outside of academics. They want to know what sets you apart from other students, what makes you tick and why theys hould choose you over other students trying to gain the spot for admission. Syracuse University is becoming more and more selective every year and year by year the selectivity is gradually plummeting.

Anyone with at least a 3Jul 13 2008Economics
anyone with at least a 3.4 gpa and 1600 on their SAT along with a few AP classes will definitely get in. I myself graduated with a 3.65 gpa, 1750 on the sat, ranked 4 in a class of 50 and got in along with an academic scholarship.
SAT: 1750 Male
Depending on the program SU is moderate-highly difficult toOct 24 2007Journalism
Depending on the program SU is moderate-highly difficult to get accepted at. If you choose to enter an Arts&Sciences major (i.e. History, English, Bio, etc) you shouldn't have too hard a time. Apply to get into Newhouse for any mass communications major, and you'd better be solid. Like a 3.5 GPA or higher solid.
SAT: 2200 Male
I was really involved with extracurriculars in high school,Jul 13 2006Journalism
I was really involved with extracurriculars in high school, which I think helped me stand out. The key thing is that Syracuse admissions people are OBSESSED WITH DIVERSITY so do something to make yourslef look unique. I was school newspaper editor, yearbook editor, and did a lot of community service like Habitat for Humanity. Even if you're a white suburban middle-class girl like me you can get in easily if you just get involved and show a distinct personality. Of course good grades and 1200+ SATs help and Newhouse is extra hard to get into, you need mostly As and around a 1300 for that.
SAT: 1300 Female
Well for my major (film), I had to sendDec 10 2005Fine Arts - Painting/Sculpture/Photography/etc
Well for my major (film), I had to send in a portfolio demonstrating my abilities in the field. I highly suggest to any candidates trying to get into VPA to do a very good job on their porfolio because it is extremely competitive, especially film.

My SAT score was crap compared to everyone else's (1130) but I seemed to be on level/above average in terms of GPA (3.6). Taking AP classes is key, if they see you take college credit classes in high school and do good on them, your chances of getting in gets that much better. Be sure to be heavily involved at school in some aspect, because they won't let you in if you did nothing with your life in high school.

Take school seriously, have a good class rank/SAT score/GPA and you should be on your way to SU!
SAT: 1130 Male
